— Coffey Labs today released HotDog CMS 0.1.0, the first public release of its open-source website builder. Pages are plain Markdown files in a git repository, the editor runs in the browser and signs people in through their git platform, and the public site is nothing but static pages.

The editor never runs on the web server. Every change is a draft that can be previewed, reviewed and checked for broken links, accessibility and privacy problems before it goes live, and existing sites can be imported from WordPress, Ghost, Hugo or Jekyll.

Early days. HotDog CMS was put together from the internal tools we use to run our own websites, and it is very early in its public life. It works, and hotdogcms.org is built with it, but there is much more to come and things to fix before it is ready for general use. Questions and rough edges are welcome on the forum.

Open source. The engine and editor are AGPL-3.0-or-later; the starter site and themes are MIT, so what people build with them is theirs. The source is on git.coffeylabs.org, mirrored to GitHub, with binaries for Linux, macOS and Windows. Get started at hotdogcms.org.
